University of Maryland, Baltimore County Assistant Professor F. Chris Curran walks listeners through the history of U.S. zero tolerance laws and their impact on school discipline.

He joins CPRE Director Jonathan Supovitz to discuss his paper “Estimating the Effect of State Zero Tolerance Laws on Exclusionary Discipline, Racial Discipline Gaps, and Student Behavior,” published in Education Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and the links between zero tolerance, racial disparities and inconsistent reduction of problematic behaviors.
